Australian frontrunner. LS-Class benchmark setter. And the man who proved one engine can deliver season after season.

From chasing a competitive LS-Class package to setting new benchmarks in the sport, Matt Malthouse’s (aka Nood Nutz) journey with JRE has been built on trust, performance, and results.

Breaking Ground with JRE

In 2020, Matt got in touch with JRE after following our results on track. We hadn’t worked together before, but he was determined to step into the LS-Class with a purpose built engine that could compete at the front. What came out of the workshop was the first JRE built LS engine and it set a new benchmark for the class.

Matt debuted the package at the opening round of the 2020 Australian V8 Superboat season and immediately took the win. It was the perfect start before COVID-19 brought the season to a halt.

Consistency at the Front

The break gave everyone time to reset and regroup, but when racing resumed, Matt picked up exactly where he left off. In 2021, he won the opening Australian V8 Superboat round again and went on to finish third overall. In 2022, he closed the season in fourth place.

Since that first build, the same engine has remained in Matt’s boat with only a few upgrades along the way. No rebuilds. No dramas. Just consistency and performance. In one of the most competitive classes, he’s been a regular top four contender every season.

Strengthening the Partnership

For the current Australian V8 Superboat season, Matt has also signed on for JRE trackside support, locking in race day data analysis and setup input across the Australian Series. As a mechanic by trade, he’s always hands on in the pits and brings a level of technical insight that makes him a strong partner to work with.
